FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I make an appointment?

Reach out! Call (623) 428-9710 or email Jeanne@Jeannebrowncounseling.com.

Simply provide your name (a first name is enough), the best way to contact you, and any other information you would like to leave.

Do you take insurance?

Currently, we only accept Private pay.

For private pay, I am considered an “out-of-network” provider. This means I don't bill through insurance companies or submit claims on your behalf.  Payment is at the time of service.

I highly recommend checking with your insurance company about reimbursement prior to beginning sessions.   Again, therapy is designed to alleviate stress, not redirect it!

What can I expect in the first session?

I do things a little differently.  Our first session will be approximately 60-90 minutes (please allow 90 minutes in your schedule if possible).

We are just going to talk!  I have an Intake document to get some information that I will go through with you to be sure there are no safety risks and to get to know what you envision for sessions.  We’ll talk a bit about your history, and discuss where you are right now and where you want to go from here.  Sound simple?  It is! Therapy is designed to reduce stress, not increase it.

If you prefer to get the Intake documents prior to you first session, just let me know and I will send them to you either through the mail or via email.

How long is a typical session?

Weekly sessions generally range from 50 minutes to 110 minutes.  Many of my clients prefer to book 1 1/2 hours (80 minutes) to 2 hours (110 minutes) for their sessions to leave more time for them to process their situations with out the constraint of a 50 minute session.  Couples counseling and trauma work typically require the longer sessions. We can work that out based on  your current need and adjust as your needs change.  My goal is for my clients to have meaningful sessions.  Jeanne Brown Counseling  always strive to meet each client where they are and improve their quality of living during each session.  It important to relax and enjoy the process!

How often do we meet?

Meeting consistently is essential for effective therapy. Sessions are generally scheduled weekly initially. Ideally, we will arrange to meet the same day/time each week—this will be your time unless you need to make a change.

Are weekend and evening appointment available?

Yes, but they are very limited.

How do I pay?

We keep a credit card is kept on file for all tele-health appointments and bill the day prior to your appointment.  For in-person appointments, clients can pay at the time of your appointment by cash or check (made out to Jeanne Brown Counseling).

What is your cancellation policy?

You will be charged half of the session cost for all scheduled appointments unless you provide 48-hour’s notice of cancellation or rescheduling.

This policy is based on time, not the situation.

How do you work with clients?

The formal answer to this is that I use base therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR and other trauma informed care interventions, with Existential and Solution focused perspective.  In plain English: we talk one human to another about what it is like to live in this ever-changing world while navigating new goals and focus for your life.  No judgement.  I support in processing and defining your wants and needs.

Do you work with children and adolescents?

Yes! I have extensive experience and training working with children and adolescents in addition to adults. Note, however, that it is important to ensure that we are the best provider for a child's needs, and we may not be able to serve all children depending on their current situation. Please reach out for the 15-minute consultation to discuss whether we would be a good fit for your child.

Additionally, for children under 18, an adult must be present in the session or in the waiting area for at least the first two sessions.

Do I have to lie on a couch?

“Have to?” No. Do you want to? You can try it, but most people just sit.
